Texas Mapping Partnership Office

Partnerships:

  • TNRIS: The Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) is the principal state archive and clearinghouse for geospatial and natural resources data.Available data include topographic maps, aerial photos, digital orthophotos, elevation, hydrography, transportation, and boundary data. Many layers are available online. TNRIS is a division of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).
  • StratMap: The first phase of the Strategic Mapping Program (StratMap) cooperatively produced in digital format seven base layers of geospatial data for the entire state at 1:24,000-scale. These include digital orthophotos, digital elevation data, contours, hydrography, transportation, boundaries, and soils. Phase two focuses on the maintanence and revision of these layers. The data is distributed by TNRIS.
  • Borderlands Information Center: The Texas Borderlands Information Center (BIC) is a central clearinghouse and referral center for information about the Texas/Mexico border region. The BIC is a section of TNRIS.
  • University of Texas Center for Space Research:  The mission of the University of Texas Center for Space Research (UT-CSR) is to conduct coordinated research efforts associated with orbit determination, space geodesy, the Earth and its environment, exploration of the solar system, as well as expanding the scientific applications of space systems data.  The USGS Geography Discipline collaborates with UT-CSR in remote sensing and applied geographic research projects.

Councils:

  • Texas Geographic Information Council:  The Texas Geographic Information Council (TGIC) provides strategic planning and coordination in the acquisition and use of geospatial data and related technologies in Texas.  Currently there are 45 actice member organizations participating in TGIC.  Meetings are held in Austin on a quarterly basis.
  • Texas Federal Geographic Information Workgroup:  The Texas Federal Geographic Information Workgroup (TFGIW) is comprised of representatives from Federal agencies whom have a direct interest in mapping, acquiring, and applying geospatial data for geographic analysis in Texas.  Meetings are held quarterly in different areas of Texas.
